For
those who only know it only as it looks today, its hard to believe
that this is California Street. The California Street in this photo
was a quiet two lane country road that started at Rengstorff Avenue,
made its way through small orchards, became a residential street in
old Mountain View and then ended in Downtown.
Today's
California Street is a busy four-lane wide thoroughfare connecting
Downtown to San Antonio Center. Although historic homes still line
it from Castro Street to Escuela Avenue, the bulk of the street is
now lined with apartment complexes built in the early 1960s.
