A
family photo of the Mountain View High School marching band during
the 1962 homecoming parade down Castro Street. Having the high
school right in downtown made it a focal point of the city and an
important part of the community. After the parade hundreds of
Mountain View residents would gather to watch the school take on an
arch-rival like the Los Altos Knights, Sunnyvale Jets, or Fremont
Indians. The greater Mountain View community and the high school
community were much more closely tied together when it was in
Downtown.
Even
after the high school closed, the new Mountain View High School
continued to have homecoming parades down Castro Street until 2000.
