SGI,
formerly Silicon Graphics, was one of the hottest high tech
companies of the 1990s. It was made famous for creating the
dinosaurs the roamed through the movie Jurassic Park. The company
expanded greatly in Mountain View during the later half of the
1990s.
On
land leased to it by the city, SGI built a distinct Silicon
Valley landmark symbolic of the unbelievable growth and wealth that occurred
during the high tech boom of the late 1990s.
